One my passion-points in the work I do through JuJu Creative Hub is that I get to work with women to help them shine their own light.
I have to be honest though, my advice doesn’t necessarily beat around the bush. Sometimes I’m very straight to the point. I say what I need to say, dosed with an ounce of love and care though!
And so believe me when I say, that this little love-bomb comes with all the heart I have to offer you. Darling one, do you need to get out of your own damn way?
I recently had a conversation with a client of mine that went a little like this:
"How is that opt-in going lovely? Have you launched it yet?"
Her response: "I haven't finished the automated welcome series, and I have to create the landing page. Plus, I'm actually starting to wonder whether I should share it all, I mean, maybe people would respond better to an e-book, or a challenge? What do you think?"
Alarm bells started ringing in my head!
"You don't need all of that to launch it - and as for those other opt-in ideas, they're great. But have you created them? Have you created the sales page and the automation emails and the actual e-book yet? Let me ask you a question - are you waiting for things to be 'perfect'?"
Now I have a deep connection with this lady, so I knew that I could speak openly and honestly with her. But I actually wanted to ask you this same question... Are you waiting for your business to be perfect before you DO THE THING THAT NEEDS DOING?
Whilst I'm definitely an advocate for all of these things; sales pages, automation sequences, opt-ins, websites, beautifully branded logos - you know, all the things that you build around your business. These things aren't actually what makes your business. Clients make your business. Money makes your business. Products & Services that are FOR SALE make your business.
I've seen too many women months or even years into their business throw up their hands, figuratively (but maybe realistically too!), and say 'That's IT! I'm giving UP!'
They walk away from everything created, they walk away from their followers and their tribe. But what hurts the most, and I can feel it in my heart is that they walk away from their dream.
We women can tell ourselves all kinds of stories, and mistruths about what’s holding us back. So today I want to crack open some of these stories so we can collectively move forward.
You're Not Focusing On The Big Stuff
When you're a one-woman show, heck even if there's a few of you behind the scenes, there are just so many things to do in a day.
There's emails, invoicing, getting paid and balancing those books. There's showing up on social media, sending out newsletters - oh and don't forget pitching that brilliant story to Huffington Post!
It's very easy to get bogged down in the daily grind, the constant 'to-do' list of running your business. But as the CEO of your soul-centered enterprise, it's your duty to focus on the big stuff.
In his book 'The One Thing' Gary Keller speaks about being single-minded in your approach to your business. Declaring just one key 'big-picture' initiative that you're working towards. He says:
"Success demands singleness of purpose.
You need to be doing fewer things for more effect instead of doing more things with side effects.
It is those who concentrate on but one thing at a time who advance in this world."
It might be easy to think he's talking about not multi-tasking here. But in fact, he's actually giving you one big permission slip to do away with the non-essentials. To focus on the big stuff.
Now you might be thinking 'But Elle, I still have emails to attend to and blog posts to write.' Yes, these things still need to happen to make your business grow. But it's about using your energy wisely.
Take a look at your to-do list. Are the things on there taking you one step closer to your big vision or dream? If not, and you've identified that they still need to happen it's time to get some help in your business.
You're Not Creating Space For Business Development
You know that e-book you've been dreaming of putting together? Or that webinar you've been wanting to host? All of those bright, shiny ideas that have your heart beating with excitement will stay just that ... ideas... if you don't do something about it.
In her book 'The Artists Way', Julia Cameron speaks of harnessing our creativity in order to utilise it to our utmost advantage. This quote really sums it up for me:
"What we really want to do is what we are really meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play to us."
I know that it can feel like when you're not working on client work, or writing blogs, or showing up on social media that you're wasting your efforts. You my dear are the energy source of your business. You're the creativity and the strategy. So you need to ensure that you're creating enough space in your calendar to work on those projects you've been dreaming of that will really take your business to the next level. That e-course that's been swirling around in your mind - it's time to start writing!
You’re Not Investing In Your Business
Whether it be working with a coach, hiring copywriter or scheduling a social media strategy session - investing in your business (in the right things) is a sure-fire way to take your business to the next level.
It's so easy for us to tell ourselves that we'll invest in things when...
When... we've got $5000 a month coming into our business.
When... we're fully-booked with clients.
When... we've devoured every piece of content from that e-course we bought three years ago, but didn't finish.
I'm not suggesting that you live beyond your means, or put yourself in any sort of financial hardship just to better your business. But as the saying goes, you get what you give (or the more masculine version 'you gotta spend money to make money!').
On an energetic level (just to get all woo-woo with you) investing in your business can be a way to show the universe that you're really serious about this. You're committed to developing as a business owner and committed to seeing your business grow so that you can have a greater impact.
It's always been my personal belief that things come into your life in the exact timing that you need them. I think they call it 'Divine Timing'... So I want you to know darling, if you've been feeling the pull, NOW. IS. THE. TIME.
You're Not Paying Attention To Your Mindset
Do you keep coming up against the same roadblocks time and time again and end up asking yourself ‘Why’?
In business, there are just so many things that can pull at our energy, so taking control of our mindset is key. Because there's no greater drain on our resources than a negative mindset that is consuming all our energy.
Next time you find yourself in a situation that isn't exactly how you desired, I want you to stop and ask yourself this one simple question:
"What have I been telling myself that has impacted on this situation?"
If it helps, write it down. Then use it to turn it into a powerful affirmation. If you're looking for a little more help on how you can change your mindset, you can check out this post.
